Quick Look:
“Double Bounce” refers to a trick where a ball hits the ground twice before you catch it. This allows you to do some really cool effects that you obviously can’t do in toss juggling!
I learned how to do 3 Ball Double Bounce on YouTube from Niels Duinker, a professional juggler from the Netherlands. Here's the video:
The visual depiction is really helpful, so there won’t be any drawings for this trick. However, I wanted to add some tips that helped me as I was learning.
There are two variations of Double Bounce with 3 balls. In one variation, two balls bounce at the same time. This variation has the Lift Cascade as a prerequisite. I found this one to be harder than the other one. The throws are very straightforward, but it can be hard not to pick up the ball after the first bounce! What helped me is to think, “Pick up the ball that’s on the same side that my crossed arm is throwing.” For example, when my right hand crosses to my left side, that means that I should pick up the leftmost ball with my left hand. (This will make more sense after you’ve watched the video.)
In the other variation of Double Bounce, all three balls bounce at the same time. The prerequisite for three simultaneous bounces is the Force Cascade. This variation was much more intuitive to me since my arms didn’t have to cross like they did for the other variation. Three Simultaneous Bounces was also really satisfying to juggle! I recommend that you add both of these variations to your repertoire.
